Girls Basketball
Early September

Junior and Senior Girls Basketball. Any girl from grade nine to OAC is welcome to tryout. Parents are welcome to assist in this years team.

Cheerleading
September-June
Supervisor:
T. Miller, H. MacDonald
Lauren Favotto - Coach
Males or females, grade 9-OAC. Must be proficient in dance and/or gymnastics and/or tumbling. Need energy and stamina. MUST attend all practices/games/events. Practices are Tuesday and Thursday after school and Wednesday mornings. After school games and some weekend competitions/workshops are also performed.

Field Hockey
September

Girl's Field Hockey is a fun sport with a combination of soccer and hockey skills. It is a short season - September to mid-October. All ages are welcome, and no experience is necessary. We provide the training!

Cross Country
September
Supervisor:
Peter Drake, Kirstyn Lewis
40 students are on the team. Practices include hills on Monday nights and speedwork Thursday night on the track. Running practice every night after school. Zone is mid- October. SOSSA is the last week of October. OFSAA is on November 1 in Renfrew. Parents needed for driving and moral support.

Jr. B. Volleyball
September

Open to grade 9 and 10 students. Approximately 14 games plus playoffs ending in early November. Four practices per week plus on or two tournaments.

Sr. Boys Volleyball
September

Grade 11, 12 are eligible. Practice 5 days a week and enter three or four tournaments this year. Approximately 11 games, playoffs ending in early November.

Jr. Boys Hockey Team
October

Mr. Piotrowski
Boys in Grades 9 or 10 have the opportunity to play Jr. Hockey. This team practices 1 - 2x a week and plays roughly one game a week. Practices take place 7:15am at the Community Centre. The season usually goes into early April. If students make the team there will be a $100 dollar user hockey fee.

Boys Hockey Team
October

High level degree of hockey "A" to "AAA" hockey players grade nine to OAC. Interested in grade nine and ten players. 30-40 Scheduled Games includes 3-4 tournaments, exhibitions, and playoffs.

Girls Hockey Team
October

Ten season games, three exhibition games and two tournaments are planned throughout the year. Reigning zone champions for the past two seasons. All grades are welcome to try out. Our focus is to learn and have fun.

Sr. and Jr. B. Basketball
October

Junior and Senior boys basketball begins the first of November and ends in February. Any boy in grade 9-12 is welcome to try out. Come soar with the eagles.

Athletic Council

Run Athletic banquet, host teacher/student games, participate in fundraising activities for athletics.

Tennis
Sept-October

There is a junior and senior team. The season consists of practices two or three times a week from the beginning of September to mid October. The zone tournament is held mid September for Seniors and late Septermber for Juniors.

Jr. G. Volleyball

Open to grade 9 and 10 girls. Approximately 11 games per season, 4 practices/ week with playoffs ending in March. The team will also play two tournaments.

Curling Club
October

GSS has male and female curling teams. Each team is made up of 4 people with a few alternates. The curling team practices once a week and plays 10 games at the Grimsby Curling Club and St. Catharines Golf and Country Club. Tryouts are held in October and the season runs from November to March.

Boys Soccer
February
Supervisor:

Grade nine to 12 are invited to try out. Season consists of indoor/outdoor tournaments and outdoor season. Zone champions two years in a row 2005 and 2006.

Badminton
February
Supervisor:
Tryouts for badminton begin in February. Tournaments are held at the end of March and throughout April. Students of all grades are welcome.

Track and Field
February
Supervisor:

Rode, Kent, Walker, Lewis

Hurdles, sprints, jumps, throws. Practice every night. Competitions start in April, continue through May and June. GSS girls have been Zone champs 8 of the last 10 years. GSS has been Zone champ 4 of the last 6 years. We love Grade 9's coming out. Parents needed for driving and moral support.

Girls Soccer Team

After a strong campaign, the team is hoping for continued success. There are many positions available because of various departures throughout the year. Indoor practices will begin at the end of February.

Girls Rugby Team
March
Supervisor:
Girls rugby is offered to all girls from gr.9-gr12. The season runs from late March-May. Parents are welcome to assist.

Senior Boys Football Team
September-November
Supervisor:

Mr. Walker, Mr. Kent
Starts first week of school and runs through the month of November. Practice is every day after school. Come and join an Eagle tradition. Grades 9 through 12 are welcome.

Rowing
November - June
Supervisor:
Mr. Beedling
Sign ups occur during the 2nd-3rd week of November. The rowing season can be divided in 2 periods. Winter training begins in December and ends in late March when crews are selected for on-water training. The training for rowing is very demanding as is the commitment to the sport. We row 6-7 days per week during the on-water training period including weekends when most regattas occur.

Boys Golf Team
September-October

Tryouts take place during the end of April weather permitting. Players need to know all the rules in the sport and have a legitimate handicap. Zone tournament takes place in mid-May.

Baseball Team
April-May

Let's play ball! Baseball is open to all GSS students grades 9-12. Tryouts begin late April with league games in May.
