Student Council Grimsby Secondary School Student Council is an elected body of students that meet each Tuesday to discuss and organize upcoming events, held both in and out of the school. Student Council gives the student at G.S.S. the opportunity to get involved and make a difference around the school and in the community. It takes considerable time and dedication, but the students are always having fun and thinking of new things to do with the student body. Student Council starts the year with a Welcome Back Breakfast followed in a week or so by a Grade 9/Grade 12 Day. This day is dedicated to giving the Grade Nine student the chance to get out and meet other students in their grade and students in the graduating class that they might otherwise not know. This is a day designed to miss classes, get dirty and HAVE FUN. Student Council does an amazing job holding six dances throughout the school year. Two of the dances held are formals. Although setting up the night before for the formals entails much work, there is so much fun, laughter, and pizza that no one seems to notice the time flying by. The members of the Student Council are given the chance to attend different leadership conferences during the school year. With the skills and ideas that they gather there, they are able to introduce more interesting “Spirit Days” to the student body. One spirit day that was a phenomenal success was “Twister Day” . Then there is the perennial favourite when you only have to get out of bed and come to school in your P.J.’s. Other successful days have been Crazy Hair Day, Monarch for a Day, Pumpkin Contest Day, Pie Eating Contest Day, Toilet Paper Mummy Day and search for Santa and Eaters eggs hidden around the school Days. These days are open to all student and teachers of Grimsby Secondary School. The G.S.S. Student Council is full of hard work, dedication
and leadership. All these qualities are shown through humour, fun and
giggle fests. We soar to success here at G.S.S.!!!!
