Visual Art Courses and Clubs

Grade Nine-AVI 10

This course offers visual arts as foundation for further study. Students will become familiar with the elements and principals of design and the expressive qualities of various materials through working with a range of various materials, processes, techniques, and styles. They will learn and use methods of analysis and criticism and will study the characteristics of Prehistoric, Egyptian, Greek, and Roman art periods as well as a selection of Canadian art and the art of other cultures.

Grade Ten-AVI 20

This course emphasizes learning through practice; building on what students know; and introducing them to new ideas, materials, and processes for artistic thinking and experimentation. Student learning will include the refined application of the elements and principals of design, incorporating the creative and design processes, and the relationship between form and content.

Students will also learn the connections between works of art and their historical contexts. Many different media, such as silkscreen, clay, and pen & ink, are applied in studio.

Grade Eleven-AVI 3M

This course provides students with opportunities to further develop their skills and knowledge in visual arts. Student will explore a range of subject matter, (the human form is studied in drawing, painting, and sculpture), through studio activities, and will consolidate their practical skills. Students will also analyse art works and study aspects of Western art history, as well as Canadian art forms and art forms from various parts of the world. Advanced understanding of studio techniques will be applied to projects.

Grade Twelve-AVI 4M

This course focuses on the refinement of students' skills and knowledge in visual arts. Students will analyse art forms; use theories of art in analysing and producing art; and increase their understanding of stylistic changes in Modern and Contemporary Western art, Canadian (including Native Canadian) art, and art forms from various parts of the world. Students will produce a body of work demonstrating a personal approach. Personal style development will be encouraged.

Art Club

Art club is a place where students can come to expand their creativity, and express themselves. We do various projects such as sculptures, painting, and silkscreen printing. The art club was also commissioned to create the large stained glass window in main ro. in 2002. This club is run by Ms. Schindel and is full of creative students from all grades. We meet every Wednesday after school until about 4:30, all are welcome.

Anime Club

The anime club is a group of students interested in Japanese Animation. There are various activities such as watching videos, talk about characters and plots, gaming tournaments, and drawing workshops done in Anime style. The staff advisor is Ms. Schindel. This student run group meets every Thursday afternoon from 3:05- 4:30, all are welcome.
